State's chancellor tried the low-key approach to persuading political leaders not to gut higher ed. Now, facing 20% cut, he's sounding the alarm.
A special session has been called for the last week in February. Now is the time that our legislators need to hear from those who elect them. Let them know how further cuts in higher ed would affect you, your families, the community, the future of Nevada. Let them know that they need to support education and that needs to include higher education. Encourage your friends and family to do the same.
As you speak or write to your legislator here are a few points to emphasize:
Your story, told in a letter, e-mail or phone call, could make a difference. Stay informed and learn how to get involved through the Budget Updates website. The website’s resources can also help you find contact information for your state representatives.
In the meantime, continue to reach out to your Professional Staff Committee representative with your questions and ideas.

Welcome to UNLV and congratulations on your new position at one of the fastest growing urban universities!
The committee is composed of representatives elected from the following University
component units:
Over the course of the year, the Professional Staff Committee is asked for recommendations to fill vacancies on campus wide and Faculty Senate committees, such as the UNLV Parking Advisory Committee or the Campus Affairs Committee. To create a fair, efficient and consistent process for appointments, the committee produced this survey as an ongoing call for volunteers. The survey will remain open throughout the year, but we will send out reminders yearly or if the volunteer pool is too small.
If you would like to be considered for an appointment to any of these committees, please click here and provide us with the information requested. We will use the information gathered to make appointments as vacancies arise. As this varies throughout the year, we will contact you prior to consideration to ensure that you are still willing and available to serve.
